Live Production Competition

CONTROL ROOM is a live music production competition. It unfolds across two dates at The Garage, Żebbuġ. First you qualify. Then you have three weeks to prepare. Then you come back and make the room move.

Qualify · 11 July

Produce a track from scratch in 3 hours, live at The Garage. Public and judges both vote on the night. Top producers advance.

Prepare · 3 Weeks

Qualifiers get three weeks to build a fuller, more complete set. Use the time well.

Finals · 25 July

Return to The Garage. Perform your set. Make the crowd dance. Crowd and judges decide the winner live on the night.

Qualification Round

11 July · Free Entry · 3PM Onwards
  • Limited to 20 spots — application required, free to enter
  • Produce a track from scratch in 3 hours — no pre-made projects
  • Both the public and judges vote for their favourites on the night
  • Top producers qualify for the Final Night on 25 July
  • DJ sets + bar throughout — guests can bring headphones to listen to tracks live

AFTERPARTY

The competition ends — the night doesn’t. Once the winner is announced, the doors open to everyone. Guest DJs, bar open late, crowd still moving. Come for the competition, stay for the party.

What to Bring

Come Prepared

Your Laptop

With your DAW installed and ready. All production software is your responsibility.

Headphones

To produce during the qualifying round without disturbing the room. Guests can also bring headphones to listen live.

Your Samples

Royalty-free only. Organise your sample library in advance — you’ll want to move fast.

Your People

The crowd votes at the final. Bring your friends, your fans, your cheerleaders.

Rules

Terms & Conditions

By entering CONTROL ROOM, you confirm that you have read and agree to the following terms. These rules exist to keep the competition fair for everyone.

Eligibility of Entries

All participants must create their project from scratch during the qualification round. Pre-made projects, previously released tracks, or works started before the competition are not permitted.

Use of Samples & Sounds

Participants may only use royalty-free samples, sounds, loops, presets, and audio content that they have the legal right to use. Any copyrighted or uncleared material is strictly prohibited.

Originality

All submitted music must be the participant’s original work. Collaboration is not permitted unless otherwise stated by the organisers.

Selection of Finalists

Finalists will be selected by an appointed judging panel based on creativity, production quality, originality, and overall performance during the qualification round.

Winner Selection

The final winner will be determined through audience/crowd voting during the final stage of the competition.

Content Usage Rights

By participating, finalists agree that their submitted songs, performances, images, videos, and related content may be used by the academy for promotional, educational, and social media content after the competition.

Ownership of Music

All intellectual property rights and ownership of the created music remain fully with the participant. The academy does not claim ownership, publishing rights, royalties, or distribution rights over any submitted material.

Media & Documentation Consent

Participants acknowledge and agree that the competition may be photographed, filmed, recorded, and documented. Content captured during the event may be shared across social media platforms, websites, promotional campaigns, and other marketing materials related to the academy and the competition.

Code of Conduct

Participants are expected to behave respectfully toward organisers, judges, fellow competitors, and audience members. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any participant for misconduct, cheating, plagiarism, or violation of these terms.
