Live out your musical-producing fantasies. Students in this program progress from learning the essential principles of music production to organizing and producing original music through Ableton Live 12.

Students will better understand Ableton's layout and tools during the "Music Production" course, helping musicians establish their flow and technique and become more fluent with Ableton. With a thorough understanding of Ableton's instruments and effects, participants will explore various methods and tactics to improve their results using this DAW. Additionally, students will gain from the Academy's custom-written notes on Ableton, which total more than 100 pages. 

 

Learn how to set up and use Ableton Live 12 to make the most of this incredible music production software, producing engaging beats and music, recording and editing Audio samples and loops. Learn to use Ableton Live 12's synths, samplers, and racks.

Course Information 

Week 1 - Let There Be Sound

Lesson 1 - Intro to Music Production 

Students will get a detailed explanation of how a studio operates, the key features of a studio, and the differences between different setups. A full explanation of the layout of Ableton, and in the last part of the lesson, students will be shown how to create their first drum loop and begin their journey in this course.

Lesson 2 - Tuning Percussions and Using the Simpler Instrument.
Learn how to use the "Spectrum" effect, which provides  the necessary information about the incoming signal and helps determine the key to the loop to tune everything accordingly. Students will start navigating the drum rack and the Simpler instrument to begin designing sounds using Ableton’s drum samples.

Week 2 - Low Ends

Lesson 1 - Creating a clean sub-bass using the Operator.

During this lesson, students will learn to use the Operator instrument to craft a well-defined sub-bass that complements a pre-existing drum loop. The lesson will focus on techniques such as sidechaining to enhance the integration of the sub-bass with the drum loop.

Lesson 2 - Mixing of the low frequencies Using the EQ8.

In this session, students will mix low frequencies using the EQ8. They will be introduced to the functionalities of EQ8 and gain insights into its optimal potential usage.

Week 3 - Mids & Highs

Lesson 1 -Color and Space.

Students will gain an introduction to critical audio effects such as reverb, saturator, and delay within the Ableton software. This lesson will include an in-depth review and practical understanding of how these effects can enhance audio production.

Lesson 2 - Ableton's Audio Effects

Students will continue the exploration of audio effects within the Ableton platform, delving deeper into the various tools and functionalities available to enhance and manipulate sound. This will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Ableton's audio effects and their applications in music production.

Week 4 - Effects

Lesson 1 -Color and Space.

Students will gain an introduction to critical audio effects such as reverb, saturator, and delay within the Ableton software. This lesson will include an in-depth review and practical understanding of how these effects can enhance audio production.

Lesson 2 - Ableton's Audio Effects

Students will continue the exploration of audio effects within the Ableton platform, delving deeper into the various tools and functionalities available to enhance and manipulate sound. This will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Ableton's audio effects and their applications in music production.

Week 5 - MIDI Effects and Layering Effects

Lesson 1 - Ableton's MIDI Effects.

In this lesson, students will delve into the functionality of the Arpeggiator, note length, pitch, and Chord MIDI effects. They will learn how to apply these MIDI effects to enhance their music production and create unique sounds.

Lesson 2 - Audio Effect Rack and Return Tracks.

This lesson will focus on using the Audio Effect Rack and Return Tracks to maintain the original dry signal while applying audio effects. Students will understand how to utilize these tools effectively to enhance their audio productions without losing the integrity of the original sound.

Week 6 - Movement and Life. 

Lesson 1 - Modulators.

Students will thoroughly explore the LFO and Shaper modulators, gaining an in-depth understanding of their functionalities and intricate applications. Through this exploration, students will uncover creative examples illustrating their potential to produce unique and dynamic effects. 

Lesson 2 - Automations

Students will learn what automations are, further expanding their knowledge and practical skills in music production to give life to the project.

Week 7 - Art Of Sampling

Lesson 1 - The Amen Break 

Students will cover importing a sample library and utilizing various sampling tools. Students will receive a sample library created by the school and be guided through different tools, such as wave stretching, reversing, and chopping. For this lesson, students will be Sampling mainly the Amen Break.

Lesson 2 - The Simpler Instrument and Warping

Students will be able to gain a deeper understanding of sampling techniques using the Simpler Instrument and its features. Additionally, they will be introduced to Warping, allowing them to manipulate audio in innovative ways.

Week 8 - Mixing Clean & Recording

Lesson 1 - Cleaning up with the EQ8

Students will delve into using EQ 8 to effectively clean up frequencies and manipulate specific frequencies by boosting or removing them. This skill is crucial for enhancing the overall sound quality of their music productions.

Lesson 2 - Recording and Ableton's Arrangement View

Students will learn how to record audio from an external microphone, how to operate a recording booth and how to take their projects to Ableton's Arrangement View to arrange their first 3-minute song.

Week 9 - Music

Lesson 1 - Automation on Arrangement View. 

The lecturer will effectively demonstrate how to use automation from the arrangement view during this lesson. Students will also be provided with creative technique demonstrations to enhance their workflow.

Lesson 2 - Final Song Arrangement. 

In this lesson, students will work on their compositions to refine and complete their first songs.

Week 10 - Macros and Track Deconstructions.

Lesson 1  - Macros

Students will be able to create their second audio effect rack, where they will learn the intricacies of programming macros.

Lesson 2 - Track Deconstruction from Guest Artist.

The learning experience gets more exciting as guest instructors deconstruct their tracks. Mutex, Braynod, and Husko will be leading the track deconstructions. Through these sessions, students will gain valuable insights into the art and science of music production from industry experts.

Week 11 - Mixing, Compression And Exporting

Lesson 1 - Compression in Music and final track arrangements.

During this lesson, students will have the opportunity to finalize their projects with the guidance of the teacher. The lesson will also include an introduction to compression in music. 

Lesson 2 – Compression in Music -  Master Class 

This session will be led by Bernard, a Sound Engineer, who will delve into Compression in Music. Additionally, students will learn about exporting stems, a crucial aspect of when completing a project.

Week 12 - Work with Stems and Share Music

Lesson 1 - Doing a Remix 

During this lesson, students can work with different stems and choose the ones they prefer to create their first-ever remix. 

Lesson 2 - Sharing of Music and Marketing Tips

In this session, students will share their Music with their peers. Additionally, they will receive valuable tips and advice on self-promotion as artists to end their course.
